Seacoast students interview Red Sox legend David Ortiz at The Brook
SEABROOK — Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, on the 23rd anniversary of signing his first contract with the Red Sox, shared stories from his 20-year Hall of Fame career for nearly an hour before a standing-room-only crowd Jan. 22 in the Seasons Showroom at The Brook Casino.
Ortiz talked about growing up watching baseball in his childhood home in the Dominican Republic, and making the big leagues with the Minnesota Twins at the age of 21 in 2001. He talked about getting released by the Twins, and signing a one-year free agent contract with the Red Sox, which led to three World Series championships over the next 14 years and ultimately being enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2022.
The night was certainly special and memorable for the hundreds in attendance, but it was even more special for three Seacoast high school students who had the opportunity to interview Ortiz backstage before the event — thanks to the New Hampshire Lottery, which sponsored the event with DraftKings.
